Honestly, I’m not certain of the best way to answer that question. The “numbers guy” in me wants to just give you the facts…
- Two years ago a market was built across the highway from the school that drove up the student population from 120 pupils to over 200 with no increase in classroom space nor instructors to teach them.
- The Kindergarten class has over 50 children with ONE teacher.
- The school is seriously overcrowded and needs additional classrooms built.
- We have a contractor that can build an annex with two additional classrooms for $30,000.
But what really matters is this…
Nyame Bekyere Christian School is a school we’ve been helping for over 8 years. This new challenge threatens the QUALITY of education the school can provide.
- We have teachers essentially babysitting when they need to be teaching because there are too many kids in the classroom.
- We have 3 students sitting in bench-desks that are made for two.
- We have multiple grade levels sharing the same space at the same time, impairing their ability to receive the specific instruction they need for their coursework.
- We have teachers begging for our help.
The school is in a position to increase its staff size if they can get more classrooms to house the students. Building two more classrooms would make the school environment much more conducive for learning. I can just imagine the smiling faces of those children right now.
THIS is why this fundraiser matters so much. THIS is why your $60 donation for a ticket is so important. Because every dollar you donate will impact a child in Ghana who needs you.
