Walking With People Toward Housing and Life Restoration

A relationship-centered approach to addressing homelessness in Southside Hampton Roads—launching January 2027.

Hayah R.I.S.S.E. Foundation is preparing to launch a new initiative focused on helping individuals experiencing homelessness move toward stability, dignity, and restored lives. Our approach is called the Relational Accompaniment Model for Housing & Life Restoration—a model rooted in presence, partnership, and long-term commitment.

Relational accompaniment means walking with someone, not managing them or attempting to “fix” them.

Rather than offering only short-term services or transactional support, this model centers on intentional relationships—built on trust, dignity, and consistency. Each participant is accompanied by trained supporters who commit to walking alongside them as they navigate barriers related to housing, health, employment, documentation, and personal stability.

This model recognizes that lasting change often happens through relationship before resolution.

Why Relationship Comes First

Many individuals experiencing homelessness have already encountered fragmented systems, broken trust, and inconsistent support. The Relational Accompaniment Model responds by offering something different:

  • A steady presence, not a revolving door
  • Customized pathways, not one-size-fits-all solutions
  • Human dignity, not conditional help

By prioritizing relationship, we create space for trust to grow—and for sustainable progress toward housing and life restoration to take root.

How the Model Works

1. Relationship Building

Participants are paired with trained companions who build consistent, respectful relationships rooted in listening and trust.

3. Ongoing Accompaniment

Supporters walk with participants over time—advocating, encouraging, and helping navigate systems rather than simply referring and disengaging.

2. Personalized Pathways

Together, we identify individual goals and barriers related to housing, health, employment, documentation, and life stability.

4. Housing & Life Restoration

The goal is not just housing placement, but restored stability, agency, and long-term sustainability.
